Individual & Family Health Insurance
If you are under 65 and do not have coverage through an employer, the Health Insurance Marketplace lets you buy a plan for yourself or your family, often with financial help that lowers the cost.
What Every Marketplace Plan Covers
All Marketplace plans cover essential health benefits, including:
- Doctor visits and preventive care
- Emergency services and hospital care
- Prescription drugs
- Maternity and newborn care
- Mental health and substance use services
- Lab tests, plus pediatric care including dental and vision for children
Plans cannot turn you down or charge you more because of a pre-existing condition.
Help Paying for Coverage
Premium tax credits can lower your monthly premium based on your household income and size. Some people also qualify for lower deductibles and copays, or for Medicaid or CHIP. Subsidy rules changed for 2027, so it is worth checking your options even if you already have a plan.
2027 Open Enrollment
- Open Enrollment: November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027 (HealthCare.gov states)
- Enroll by December 15, 2026: coverage starts January 1, 2027
- Enroll December 16 – January 15: coverage starts February 1, 2027
Live in a state that runs its own marketplace, such as New Jersey (Get Covered New Jersey)? Deadlines can differ. We will confirm your state’s dates with you.
Outside Open Enrollment, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after a life event such as losing other coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby. Medicaid and CHIP enrollment is open all year.
